How do I use fee pass-through in JIM

Let customers cover the processing fee when you sell with Tap to Pay or Payment Links.

Fee pass-through lets you decide who covers the processing fee when you make a sale with JIM. You can choose this during checkout, which gives you more control over your margins whether you are selling in person or remotely.

This option is available when you charge with Tap to Pay or Payment Links. Depending on the sale, you can either absorb the processing cost yourself or pass it through to the customer.


What is fee pass-through?

Fee pass-through is the option to add the processing fee to the final amount your customer pays.

Instead of taking the fee out of your sale amount, JIM adjusts the total so the customer covers the processing cost. If you prefer, you can keep the customer-facing price unchanged and absorb the fee yourself.


How to set it up during a sale

  1. Open the JIM app.

  2. Enter the amount you want to charge and hit Sell.

  3. Choose how you want to charge the customer (Tap to Pay or Payment Link).

  4. Enable de pass-through fee option.

  5. Complete the sale or share the link with your customer.

Once your customer pays, the money is available on your JIM Card in seconds.


When does fee pass-through make sense?

Fee pass-through can be useful when:

  • You want to protect your margin on in-person or remote sales

  • You charge custom amounts and want to keep your full price

  • You want flexibility to decide case by case

For example, you might use a fee pass-through when charging a customer in person with Tap to Pay or when sending a Payment Link for a remote order. In both cases, you can decide whether to absorb the fee or let the customer cover it before completing the sale.


What happens if you absorb the fee?

If you choose to absorb the fee, your customer sees the exact sale amount you entered. The processing fee is deducted from your payout.


What happens if the customer covers the fee?

If you pass the fee through, JIM adjusts the final total so the customer pays the sale amount plus the processing cost.

Using fee pass-through gives you more control over how you price each sale.
